Officer who has been awarded an MBE

Congratulations to Ken Gill, Chief Officer (retired) of Ryedale Community Transport, who has been awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for services to the community in Ryedale in the New Years Honours List.

Ken started at the charity as a volunteer driver in 2006 but soon accepted the post of  Operations Manager in 2007, eventually taking over the position of Chief Officer in 2017. During his time as Chief Officer Ken has successfully managed a Department for Transport Consultation and Judicial Review; helped secure funding during the Coronavirus pandemic that allowed Ryedale Community Transport to operate their vital services during the lockdowns and secured five years of funding from the National Lottery to develop an on-demand Dial and Ride service covering the Ryedale area called  ‘The Ryedale Rover’.

We are delighted for Ken who retired in March 2022 after over 15 years’ service at the charity. This prestigious award is well deserved, and we are enormously proud of him and all that he has achieved for Ryedale Community Transport and its members.

Ken is enjoying a well-earned retirement coordinating his own transport plans but he did take time out to say “I am delighted and humbled to receive the award”. Ken has always maintained that the Charity and its services are more important than one man, but we think this man is pretty special.
